Overview
The Village of Channahon’s mission is to strengthen and maintain the Village of Channahon as a family oriented, attractive community that provides economic diversity, high quality schools, parks and public services for all its residents.
A strong sense of Community, Friendly residents, a progressive government, quality schools, affordable homes, and an impressive recreational system are just a few of the features contributing to the quality of life in Channahon. In 2017 Channahon was named the 56th Safest City in America!
Channahon is located at the confluence of the Des Plaines and Kankakee rivers, where they form the Illinois River. The Illinois and Michigan Canals (including several locks) runs through most of the village, where it is fed by the water of the DuPage River, hence the meaning of it’s name, “Meeting of the Waters”.
Channahon has an outstanding school district. Here, you’ll find classrooms where award-winning schoolteachers relish their occupations, and the kids under their tutelage benefit. And our new state-of-art Middle school give kids the latest and greatest technology to enhance their learning potential.
Because Channahon is located on the Illinois River, and has several access points, it offers opportunities for fun on the water— boating, water skiing, fishing, or just relaxing near the waters edge. There are also miles of hiking and biking trails along the historic I&M Canal, with plenty of woods and fresh air in our Forest Preserves. For the avid golfers, we have Heritage Bluffs Golf Course, and 18-hole award-winning course that’s right off I-55. Channahon Park district has lots of great programs, and also runs the popular Tomahawk Aquatic Center. Another great family attraction that draws thousands of visitors each fall is the Dollinger Farm Pumpkin Festival- featuring live Civil War re-enactments, petting zoo, hayrack rides, and definately pumpkins.
